Invitation to inaugural lecture by Honorary Professor Judith Gregory
"Human Centered Informatics - an Incomplete Utopian Project"
In this lecture, the concept of incomplete utopian project and the related concept-proposal of design for negotiation of disparate logics are introduced to reflect on Human Centered Informatics and Design in contemporary society, with reference to their deeply historical and future-oriented motivations. Design and Human Centered Informatics are both pivotally positioned in relation to three convergent epochal turns:
- the turn towards interdisciplinarity that engages participation and diverse knowledges of science, industry, publics and civil society;
- the turn towards interactivity enabled by digital technologies and social media that have transformative influence across domains and our interactions with artifacts and built environment;
- the turn towards open collaboration and international collaborations in which human centered informatics and design as inherently transdisciplinary and infrastructural practices are highlighted.
