This thesis aims to identify and understand key elements that might be included in designing suitable learning interventions for enabling older adults using information and communication technologies (ICT) (i.e. computers, mobile devices and applications) for enhancing cognitive activity, increasing social interaction, and promoting successful and active aging.

The aim of this special issue is to elucidate current practices and experiences of mixing traditional, physical, location-specific and face-to-face modes of learning with online learning formats – altogether known as blended learning. In the design disciplines, this poses particular challenges, as design learning has traditionally been deeply rooted in practices which involve interaction with both people – peers and instructors – and physical matter.
In this doctoral thesis, Jacob Madsen addresses the problem of inequality in health by focusing on how underprivileged citizens experience and manage health-related problems in their everyday lives. Particularly, he focuses on the citizen’s use of technology for engaging in health-related occupation.
